Stump Lake
Stump Lake sits immediately east of Devils Lake and is now connected to it: during the great wet cycle, Devils Lake spilled over and raised Stump some 45 feet, transforming a salty catch-basin into roughly 15,700 acres of fresh, fertile fishing water. The two lakes share water, forage, and fish.
What Stump doesn’t share is the traffic. Same shrimp-fed walleye and perch, same flooded-timber structure — the name predates the flood, but it fits — with quieter ramps and more elbow room.
The Fishing
Stump is effectively an extension of the Devils Lake fishery: stocked walleye, jumbo yellow perch, northern pike, and white bass, all riding the same freshwater-shrimp forage that makes the basin famous. Its greater average depth gives fish (and anglers) more options through the season, and winter brings a significant, noticeably quieter perch and walleye ice bite.
