Lake Metigoshe

Lake Metigoshe sits in the aspen-and-oak hills of the Turtle Mountains on the Canadian border, about 14 miles from Bottineau. At roughly 1,540 acres with 28 miles of cabin-lined shoreline, it is a completely different world from the big prairie reservoirs: sheltered, warm, and social.

This is the Minot area’s family lake — swimming, tubing, pontoon cruising, and a cabin culture that goes back generations. If your picture of boating is kids on a tube and dinner on the water, Metigoshe is your lake.

The Fishing

Metigoshe is one of the region’s few genuinely good panfish and bass lakes — bluegill, black crappie, and largemouth bass alongside the usual walleye, pike, and perch. The shallow, weedy bays that make it a great swimming lake also make it a great place to put kids on fish.
